About the VWS

What We Do

The Victoria Writers’ Society (VWS) is a non-profit organization based in Victoria, B.C.

Since 1993, we’ve been connecting writers across Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands.

We welcome writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry of all experience levels.

Our goal is to create a welcoming space where writers can learn, share their work, and connect with others who are passionate about writing.

Monthly Meetings

The Victoria Writers’ Society hosts industry professionals who share their insight and knowledge on writing and publishing.

Island Writer Magazine

Our organization publishes Island Writer, a literary magazine featuring some the best work from writers across the islands.

Critique Groups

Victoria Writers’ Society members can participate in small, informal groups where writers present their works in progress and receive critical feedback.

Writing Contest

There will be no contest in 2026. We are looking at ways it may be revitalized in the future. VWS is committed to recognizing – and rewarding – fine writing and giving writers opportunities to share their work.
