Robin Stevenson: Writing, Revising and Publishing Young Adult Fiction

Drawing on her own experience as a writer and editor, Robin will talk about some of characteristics, challenges and controversies of young adult fiction. She will share her own writing process, offer tips on character development and voice, and discuss some of the common difficulties in completing, revising, and selling a YA novel.

Robin Stevenson is the author of twenty books for teens and children. Her YA novel A Thousand Shades of Blue was a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Awards and was recently included in CBC’s list of 100 Young Adult Books That Make You Proud to Be Canadian. She is a three-time BC Book Prize finalist, and her novel Record Breaker won the Silver Birch Award in 2014.

Robin has taught creative writing in school, library, community and university settings, and frequently offers courses through the University of Victoria’s Continuing Studies program.
