Island Writer Magazine

The next issue of the Victoria Writers’ Society’s Island Writer is under way!! We welcome submissions from both established and emerging writers currently living on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Submissions for Volume 8 Issue 2 must be received by Wednesday September 01, 2010.

What to Submit:

We welcome poems, fiction, creative non-fiction, and articles on the craft of writing or life as a writer.

Submission Lengths and Limits:

  • Poems: no more than 150 lines, (three poems per submission)
  • Fiction: 3,500 word maximum
  • Creative non-fiction: 3,500 word maximum
  • Articles, reviews and interviews between 750-1500 words

Submissions are limited to one submission in each category (fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, articles) per writer per issue. Any submissions beyond these limits will be rejected due to the volume of submissions Island Writer receives.

How to Submit

Island Writer magazine will only accept submissions in an electronic format: Word, RTF or text files. Email to IWsubmissions@victoriawriters.ca. In the subject area of the email please list the following: Genre, Last name (e.g., Fiction, Smith).

Include your contact information in the body of your email and attach the submission to the email. Your contact information must include your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, title, genre and word count. Include a brief bio (30-40 words) with your submission, where you may mention your website or other work.

Include your work’s title on each page of your manuscript but no personal information to facilitate blind judging. Please number your pages.

You will receive a confirmation email that we have received your submission. If you do not receive a confirmation within two weeks, please contact us at IWsubmissions@victoriawriters.ca.

Please note that submission does not guarantee publication. All submissions will be carefully considered and read by the Editorial Team blind of authorship. Due to the large number of submissions, we regret that we cannot offer critiquing or commentary about your work. Island Writer is not currently a paying market, but authors will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which their work appears.

Island Writer reads on an issue-by-issue basis. You will be notified whether your submission has been accepted two to four weeks prior to publication.
