Runaway Wives and Rogue Feminists
Margo Goodhand
Margo Goodhand discusses the highs, lows and hissy fits behind the publication of Runaway Wives and Rogue Feminists. Her history of the women’s shelter network in Canada was published in 2017 (Fernwood Publishing), and this year won Manitoba’s Alexander Kennedy Isbister Award for best non-fiction as well as the Eileen McTavish Sykes Award for best first book.
Margo Goodhand was the first female news editor of the Medicine Hat News, the founding editor of Okanagan Business Magazine, and the first editor-in-chief of the Winnipeg Free Press. In 2013, she became Editor-in-Chief of the Edmonton Journal.
With more than 30 years of experience in communications, Goodhand was a media panelist for Peter Mansbridge on CBC’s The National before leaving the Journal in 2016.
A popular public speaker on issues ranging from media and politics to women’s history and leadership, Goodhand works for the Michener Board of Governors, the Victoria-Esquimalt Harbour Society and Our Place, a Victoria homeless shelter. She and her husband live in a float home at Fisherman’s Wharf.
